The use of human specimens to demonstrate the orofacial anatomy is one of the defining features of this textbook. Unlike intrasurgical images, these are free of blood that may hide certain features, and dissections can be performed to identify nerves and vessels without any risk to a patient\u2019s health. The specimens can be treated so that certain features may show a different color than they naturally appear, and areas can be sectioned to focus on any specific region or angle.
