Development of the Human Dentition iBook Now Available!

For almost three decades, Prof Frans P.G.M. Van der Linden’s classic text Development of the Human Dentition has been the international standard reference in its field. These concepts have now been updated in an iBook-only format that serves as a new definitive reference.
Prof Van der Linden systematically takes the reader through the stages of tooth formation, development of the deciduous dentition, the transition to the permanent dentition, and the aging of the dentition. This text emphasizes the complex and diverse relationships among the development of the dentition, the growth of the face, and functional factors. This text is essential for dentists, orthodontists, pedodontists, dental hygienists, nurses, and assistants in developing a more complete understanding of both the normal development of the dentition and its deviations.
Since the publication of the first edition of this text, new information in this field has become scarce as previous sources of information such as radiographic growth studies and the export of skeletal material from Asia have been banned. This ebook comprises a definitive look at the development of the dentition with numerous skeletal photographs illustrating the development of the dentition in dry skulls. In addition, this new iBook edition also contains three-dimensional digital illustrations and 50 video clips to provide a more complete understanding of the dentition not possible in two-dimensional illustrations.
This iBook is sure to become the new standard reference in its field. Preview the book here. This title can be ordered exclusively through iBooks.
Dr Terry, Author of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, Visits Quintessence
Dr Douglas A. Terry, DDS, visited the Quintessence office last week to sign copies of his new book, Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry: Material Selection and Technique, Second Edition.

Dr Terry has made it his mission to place a copy of the new edition in every dental school in the country so that all dental students would have access to it. He rallied support and was able to get over 50 books donated to dental schools, each of which he signed this past week at Quintessence. If you want a signed copy for your library, this is your last chance because there are only 20 still available! Please call Quintessence at (800)621-0387 to order by phone if you are interested in getting one of the last remaining signed copies.

Dr Terry also worked on his upcoming children’s book, Dental Care for Children: All About Healthy Teeth and Gums, while in the office. When asked why he wrote the book, Dr Terry responded that “children become adults, so we need to teach them about periodontal disease and how to avoid it.” He added that “a picture’s worth a thousand words, so why not show kids what happens when they don’t take care of their teeth?” Dr Terry sees the book as a tool for dentists and parents to educate their children about dental hygiene, and it will cater to children between the ages of 5 and 14.

One thing you might not know about Dr Terry is that he’s part of a group called Texans for Dental Reform. Overtreatment and Medicaid fraud are big issues in Texas (as in other parts of the country), and Dr Terry and his group fight against what he calls “dollar-driven dentistry” to promote good dentistry and ethics in the industry. He says that “it’s criminal to overtreat anyone,” which is why he takes part in the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners meetings. See their website for more information.
Celebrating National Children’s Dental Health Month with America’s Tooth Fairy

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, a program sponsored by the American Dental Association to raise awareness about how good oral health habits established in childhood lead to a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.
Get kids engaged with good dental habits with The Magical Tooth Fairies: The Secret of the Magic Dust and How the Tooth Mouse Met the Tooth Fairy, books that will entertain and educate children about the importance of caring for their smiles. ”The Magical Tooth Fairies” is the first book in a new series based on a popular cartoon. Each book comes with a corresponding episode on DVD.
In conjunction with the Tooth Fairies series, Quintessence is proud to partner with National Children’s Oral Health Foundation: America’s Tooth Fairy by donating a portion of the proceeds from each book sold.
America’s Tooth Fairy provides educational materials, community outreach, oral health screenings, and treatment as part of a united effort to protect children’s oral health and break the cycle of preventable oral diseases in underserved communities. Young readers of the Tooth Fairies series can also sign up for the America’s Tooth Fairy Kids Club, which provides newsletters with oral health tips and activities for kids, parents, and caregivers.
