If you’ve been in the dental industry for some time, chances are you are quite familiar with the Quintessence International Publishing Group brand. Founded in 1949, Quintessence first began publishing a monthly journal Die Quintessenz devoted to the idea of providing the “essence of dentistry,” from which the company took its name. The company initially published only German-language journals and books in dentistry. Dr h.c. Walter Haase led the company in the early years of its development. The first English-language journal, Quintessence International, was launched in 1969, followed by the opening of the US office in Chicago in 1973.

After nearly two decades of leadership from Dr Walter Haase, his son, Dr med dent h.c. Horst-Wolfgang Haase, took over the family business in 1969. His commitment to excellence in business proved instrumental in the company’s rapid growth in books, journals, multimedia, and symposia programming. During his tenure, the company has expanded its operations worldwide, establishing its own publishing houses in 14 countries and licensing partners in another 7 countries. Publication partners oversee the translation of books into more than 15 languages.

Dr Horst-Wolfgang Haase is still active in the business, working with his son, Christian Haase, to expand the company’s footprint in the marketplace. Meeting the needs of both the beginning dental student and the experienced practitioner, the company has published 61 professional journals; more than 1,500 book titles; and over 300 videos, DVDs, CD-ROMs, and multimedia programs worldwide by more than 3,000 authors. The Quintessence brand is synonymous with the highest standards of quality, largely owing to the work of the Haase family, and Quintessence will continue to serve the dental community with excellence for years to come.
